Discover the current travel regulations for unvaccinated foreign nationals entering Turkey in 2024 and learn what documents you need for a smooth arrival process.
Current Travel Requirements for Turkey
Turkey has significantly relaxed its entry requirements following the global pandemic. For most travelers, the strict health protocols that once governed international arrivals are no longer in place. This makes Turkey one of the most accessible countries for foreign tourists, regardless of their vaccination status.
Entry Rules for Unvaccinated Foreigners
As of June 2022, Turkey removed all COVID-19 entry requirements. Foreigners entering the country do not need to show proof of vaccination. You are also not required to present a negative PCR test or a rapid antigen test result at the border. This applies to all arrivals by air, land, and sea.
While the Turkish government does not require these documents, you should always check with your airline. Some carriers may have their own specific health policies or requirements based on your point of origin or transit locations.
Domestic Travel Within Turkey
Unvaccinated foreigners can travel freely within Turkey. There are currently no restrictions on domestic flights, intercity buses, or trains for those without a vaccine certificate. The requirement to present a negative PCR test for domestic travel has been lifted.
The HES code (Hayat Eve Sığar), which was previously mandatory for entering public buildings, shopping malls, and using public transport, is no longer required. You can move between cities and use local transport systems without any digital health tracking.
Public Spaces and Social Events
The rules for social gatherings have also returned to normal. Unvaccinated individuals can access the following venues without providing health documentation:
- Cinemas and theaters
- Concert halls and event spaces
- Shopping malls and restaurants
- Museums and historical sites
Mask mandates have been largely abolished. You are generally only required to wear a mask in healthcare facilities, such as hospitals and clinics. Some private businesses may still request mask-wearing at their discretion, but this is increasingly rare.
Necessary Documents for Your Trip
While health documents are not needed, you must ensure your standard travel documents are in order. This includes:
- Valid Passport: Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry.
- Visa or e-Visa: Depending on your nationality, you may need to apply for an e-Visa before arrival.
- Travel Insurance: While not mandatory for entry, having insurance that covers health emergencies is highly recommended.
Staying Informed
Travel regulations can change based on global health shifts. It is wise to monitor the official website of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or your local Turkish embassy before you depart. Always confirm the latest boarding requirements with your airline 48 hours before your flight.
