Get the latest information regarding travel restrictions and current regulations in Turkey for 2024 to ensure a smooth transition for your relocation or visit.

New Regulations for Intercity Travel and Business Operations

The government has announced a significant easing of restrictions starting June 1. This transition marks a new phase in the normalization process. While many sectors are reopening, specific health protocols and time limits remain in place to ensure public safety.

Lifting the Intercity Travel Ban

The intercity travel restriction is completely lifted as of June 1. Citizens can now travel between provinces without the previous permit requirements. However, this change is not necessarily permanent. Authorities will monitor the health situation in every province. If infection rates rise or negative trends emerge, travel bans may be re-imposed on a regional basis.

Reopening Guidelines for Restaurants and Cafes

Food and beverage businesses can resume dine-in services starting June 1. This includes restaurants, cafes, patisseries, coffee shops, and tea gardens. These establishments must follow a strict closing time of 22:00. Hot springs and similar wellness facilities will also begin serving customers again under the same schedule.

Excluded Businesses and Restrictions

Not all businesses are permitted to open yet. Entertainment venues remain closed until further notice. Additionally, the sale of hookah (shisha) is strictly prohibited in all establishments. These measures aim to prevent prolonged close-contact gatherings in enclosed spaces.

Tourism and Roadside Facilities

Tourism facilities operate under different guidelines to support the travel industry. Businesses located within tourism facilities are not subject to the 22:00 closing time. Similarly, resting facilities located on major road routes will continue to serve travelers 24/7 starting June 1. The government will continue to evaluate these operating hours based on local developments.

Beaches, Parks, and Cultural Sites

Public outdoor spaces are now accessible for recreational use. National parks, gardens, and beaches will be operational starting June 1. Cultural and historical sites are also part of the reopening plan. Museums and historical ruins will welcome visitors again, allowing for the resumption of domestic tourism activities.

Education and Childcare Services

To support working parents, childcare facilities are reopening. Kindergartens and day-care centers (nurseries) will resume operations on June 1. These facilities must adhere to specific hygiene and distancing protocols to protect children and staff.

Sports, Racing, and Animal Sales

The sports and hobby sectors are seeing a phased return to activity:

  • Animal Sales: Pet shops and animal sales locations can reopen on June 1.
  • Individual Sports: Restrictions on individual athletic activities have been removed.
  • Horse Racing: Racecourses will resume activities on June 10.

Marine Tourism and Transportation

Limitations on sea tourism, commercial fishing, and maritime transportation are now lifted. Operators must follow the established safety rules and capacity limits defined by the relevant ministries. This move is expected to revitalize coastal economies and private boat charters.

Public Facilities and Professional Courses

Several public and educational services will resume on June 1. This includes driving schools and similar vocational courses. Public libraries, youth centers, and youth camps will also reopen. These facilities must operate within specified conditions to manage visitor density and maintain sanitation standards.

Outdoor Events and Concerts

Cultural life is returning with the resumption of outdoor events. Open-air concerts are permitted to take place again. These events must conclude by 24:00. Relevant government institutions will provide further detailed explanations regarding capacity limits and seating arrangements for these gatherings.
