Azerbaijani citizens can now travel to Turkey using only their new identity cards. Discover the updated 90-day visa-free stay rules for your next visit.

Passport-Free Travel Between Turkey and Azerbaijan

Turkey and Azerbaijan now share a special bond that makes crossing borders easier than ever. You can now enjoy passport-free travel between Turkey and Azerbaijan by using just your national identity card. This change helps millions of people visit family or do business without needing a passport for short trips. It's a big step for these two nations.

Rules for Passport-Free Travel Between Turkey and Azerbaijan

Both governments signed this deal to make life easier for their citizens. It cuts out red tape and helps people move freely for tourism or work. But you need to know a few specific details before you head to the airport.

When did this start?

This system went live on April 1, 2021. Since then, you don't need to show a passport at the border gates. Turkish and Azerbaijani citizens can simply show their ID and walk through. This follows a deal made by foreign ministers back in 2020.

What ID do you need?

You must use the new biometric identity cards with a chip to get these benefits. Old paper IDs won't work for international travel. These chips hold your digital info, which customs officers need to check your identity quickly and safely.

Important rules for your trip

The process is much simpler now, but you still have to follow specific rules. These ensure you don't have trouble at the border.

You must travel directly

The passport-free rule only works if you travel directly between the two countries. If you fly from Georgia or Russia into Azerbaijan, you'll still need a passport. So, make sure your flight or bus route doesn't stop in a third country if you only have your ID.

How long can you stay?

You can now stay for up to 90 days without a visa. This is a big jump from the old 30-day limit. But if you plan to stay longer than three months, you must apply for a residence permit. Your ID card doesn't let you live or work there forever.

Don't lose your Entry-Exit Form

When you arrive, the border officer will give you a small paper called a "Giriş-Çıkış Formu." This is very important. Since they can't stamp your ID card, they stamp this form instead. Keep it in a safe place during your whole trip. If you lose it, you might face fines or delays when you try to leave the country.

The future of Turkey-Azerbaijan travel

This policy brings Ankara and Baku closer together. By allowing passport-free travel between Turkey and Azerbaijan, both countries hope to see more trade and stronger friendships. It's a simple way to show that these two nations really are "One Nation" with two states.
