How to Get Work Permit for Child, Elderly and Patient Care?
Discover the essential steps and requirements for obtaining a work permit for child, elderly, or patient care services in Turkey for foreign nationals.
Understanding Domestic Worker Permits in Turkey
Turkey offers specific work permit categories for people working in private homes. These permits mainly cover child care, elderly care, and patient care. The Ministry of Labor and Social Security handles these to make sure everyone follows the law. You must get these domestic worker permits in Turkey to avoid heavy fines and deportation.
Requirements for Child Care Work Permits
To hire a foreign nanny, your household needs a child under 15. But here's a tip. The Ministry prefers children under 12. This usually leads to a higher approval rate. If your child is older than 15, you'll need to prove a special need. This could be for language lessons or developmental help. And don't worry—the foreign worker doesn't need to be a student to apply.
Requirements for Elderly and Patient Care Permits
For elderly care, the person receiving help should usually be over 65. Patient care is different. Age isn't the main factor there. Instead, you'll need medical reports from a certified doctor or hospital. These papers must state that the patient needs constant care at home. Without these documents, the Ministry will likely say no.
Employer Eligibility and Financial Criteria
Your financial status is the biggest factor in the approval process. You must show you can pay the worker's salary and social security (SGK) premiums. The Ministry will check your bank records and income. A higher income makes things much easier. Also, make sure you don't owe the state any money from previous employees.
How to Apply for a Work Permit from Abroad
If your worker is currently outside Turkey, start at the Turkish Consulate in their country. First, you'll prepare a formal contract and the necessary petitions. Then, send these to the worker. They'll visit the Consulate to get a reference number. You then have 10 business days to use that number for the online application in Turkey. The Ministry usually gives an answer within 30 days.
How to Apply for a Work Permit within Turkey
Foreigners already in Turkey can apply if they have a residence permit with at least six months left. You and the worker will need electronic signatures (e-imza) for the documents. After you submit the application online, the Ministry reviews your income and the worker's background. Once approved, you'll pay the fees at a bank. The physical card will arrive at your home address by mail.

Social Security and Legal Obligations
After the permit is ready, you must register the worker with the Social Security Institution (SGK). Do this on the very first day the permit starts. If you miss payments, the Ministry might cancel the permit. Plus, you'll face fines. Remember, the worker must live at the address you put on the application. It's a strict rule for all domestic worker permits in Turkey.
