Many people got stuck when COVID-19 stopped international travel. If you are one of the foreigners who could not leave Turkey due to the pandemic, don't worry about penalties yet. The government won't issue an entry ban for overstaying while travel was impossible.

But you must act fast once routes open. You have exactly one month to leave Turkey after travel to your country becomes possible again. This grace period starts the day flights or buses resume for your specific home country.

Don't stay too long. If you miss this one-month window, you'll face an administrative fine. You will also get a formal entry ban. This rule applies to anyone who stayed past their legal limit because of the shutdown.

And remember, it's your job to track when your travel route opens. All foreigners who could not leave Turkey due to the pandemic should plan their exit now to avoid legal trouble.
