How many months/years of residence permit should I have at least in order to apply for a work permit?
Learn the essential requirements for applying for a work permit in Turkey, including the mandatory 6-month residence permit rule and necessary documentation.
Minimum Residence Permit Duration for Domestic Applications
To apply for a **work permit in Turkey** from inside the country, you need six months left on your residence permit. The Ministry of Labor sets this rule for all domestic applications. If your permit is shorter, you'll have to apply through a Turkish consulate in your home country. It's a strict requirement, so check your dates early.

How to Get a Work Permit in Turkey: Domestic vs. International Routes
You have two main ways to get your permit. Applying from within Turkey is usually faster. You won't need a consulate appointment this way. But this path is only for people who already have a residence permit. Many people use a short-term tourist permit to switch. Just make sure it still has six months left. If it's about to expire, you must use the international route instead.

Mandatory Documents for the Foreign Applicant
The whole process happens online through the e-permit system. You'll need to provide these documents:
If you need a closer look here, see Essential Documentation for Applicants.
- Employment Contract: A signed deal between you and your employer. You'll scan and upload this during the application.
- Passport Copy: A clear scan of your passport. If it's not in Latin letters, get a certified Turkish translation from a notary.
- Educational Certificates: Your diploma or graduation paper. It needs a Turkish translation and a notary's stamp. If you're a babysitter or caregiver, you just need a statement about your last school.
Required Documentation for the Employer
Your employer also has to show they can pay your salary. They'll need to submit these business papers:
- Turkish Trade Registry Gazette: This shows the company's current capital and who owns it.
- Financial Statements: The balance sheet from last year. A tax office or an accountant must approve it.
Critical Passport Validity Rules
Under Turkish law, your permit depends on your passport. The ministry won't give you a permit that ends less than 60 days before your passport expires. And if your passport has less than 60 days left when you apply, they'll reject it. So, check your dates. It's best to have at least a year or two left on your passport before you start.
The E-Permit Application Process
After you gather everything, your employer submits the application online. They'll use an electronic signature to sign off. Then, the Ministry checks your file. If they approve it, they'll mail the card to the company address. This card is special. It acts as both your work and residence permit. So, you won't need a separate residence card anymore. Getting your **work permit in Turkey** is a big step for your career. Make sure your papers are ready, and the process will be much easier.
