All 10 stages of a Turkish citizenship application, with the exact Turkish status messages from the official status page (vatan.nvi.gov.tr) and what each one means: registration in e-Vatandaşlık, transfer to Ankara, document review, the security and archive check (usually the longest stage), evaluation, the list and the decision, civil registry entry and the final notification. Also covered: typical total time (investment files 3–6 months, residence route 1–3 years), family members, how to track your file, why files slow down and what to do if your status is stuck.

The full story.

You've applied for Turkish citizenship, and the status page shows you a message in Turkish. Here's what each of the ten stages means, and roughly how long it takes.

Stage one. Your application has been registered in the e-Vatandaşlık system, and the work on it will begin. You'll also get an application number. Keep it safe.

Stage two. Your documents have been sent to the General Directorate in Ankara, but they haven't arrived yet. Stages one and two each usually take up to about two weeks.

Stage three. Your file has reached Ankara, and your documents are being reviewed. If something is missing, you'll be asked for it. Send it quickly, because the file waits until you do.

Stage four. Your file has been sent to the relevant institutions for archive research. This is the security check, and it's usually the longest stage. Waiting here is normal.

Stage five. The research and evaluation process is continuing. Officials review the results and confirm that you meet the legal requirements.

Stages six to eight. Your file is added to the list for the decision authority, and then sent for the final decision. When your status mentions the list, you're getting close.

Stage nine. Your result is being registered in the civil registry. This usually takes one to two weeks.

Stage ten. You're asked to visit the application office so your result can be delivered. After that, you can apply for your Turkish ID card and passport.

So how long does it take overall? For investment files, typically three to six months. On the residence route, the process usually takes one to three years. There's no official timetable, and every file moves at its own pace.

Your spouse and children under eighteen move through the stages with you. Every adult in the file gets their own security check.

To follow your file, use the official status page at vatan.nvi.gov.tr, with your application number and date of birth. Save a screenshot whenever the status changes.

Files usually slow down for a few reasons: names or dates that don't match across documents, translation or apostille problems, extra checks on the valuation or title deed, or changes during the process, like a new passport or a new child.

If your status hasn't changed for a long time, don't submit a second application. Contact the application office, or call ALO 199. Don't trust anyone who promises a fixed timeline, and never send your ID documents to people you can't verify.
