The Evolution of International Student Admissions in Turkey
The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) is starting a new era for international student admissions in Turkey. The first TR-YÖS exam will take place on January 29th. This single test makes the whole application process much simpler. Before this, most universities held their own separate exams. Key Details of the January 29th TR-YÖS
This new TR-YÖS aims to bring the best foreign students from around the world to Turkey. By using one system, Turkey makes it simple to apply to many schools with just one score. You don't even need to speak Turkish to take it. The test comes in six languages: Turkish, English, Arabic, French, German, and Russian.
Testing Centers: Where to Take the Exam

The exam will happen in 17 provinces across Turkey:
- Adana, Ankara, and Bursa
- Edirne, Gaziantep, and Hatay
- Mersin, Istanbul, and Izmir
- Kayseri, Konya, and Kahramanmaraş
- Mardin, Trabzon, and Şanlıurfa
- Van and Kilis
International Testing Centers
Candidates can also find testing centers in 23 different countries, including:
- Northern Cyprus, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan
- Germany, Saudi Arabia, and Iran
- Pakistan, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan
- Sudan, Ethiopia, Tunisia, and Algeria
- Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, and Afghanistan
- Chad, Libya, Nigeria, Niger, Senegal, and Jordan
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
Applicants for the TR-YÖS must meet specific rules set by YÖK. You can apply if you fall into one of these categories:
- Foreign nationals who have no claim to Turkish citizenship.
- Blue Card holders. These are people born as Turkish citizens who later gave it up with official permission.
- Dual citizens who got foreign citizenship while they were still foreign nationals.
- Students who finished their entire high school education outside of Turkey.
Exam Content and Structure
Most of the 80 questions on the TR-YÖS check your basic learning skills. The focus is mainly on math and logic. Since the logic part doesn't rely on heavy language skills, it's fair for students from all backgrounds. Your score stays valid for two years. This gives you plenty of time to plan your move to Turkish universities.
