Deputy Minister Nadir Alpaslan announced that Turkey aims to host 34 million foreign visitors in 2021, supported by the Safe Tourism Certification Program.
Turkey Aims for 34 Million Foreign Visitors in Turkey for 2021
Deputy Minister Nadir Alpaslan says the country had big plans for foreign visitors in Turkey last year. They wanted to reach $40 billion in tourism income. Early signs and bookings looked great. But the coronavirus pandemic hit the world hard. This forced the tourism sector to miss its original goals.
Turkey used the Safe Tourism Certification Program to protect its guests. This helped the country lose less than its rivals in 2020. So, the tourism sector still saw a 65% drop by the end of the year.
Our country remains a top choice for travelers. Alpaslan notes that while 2019 levels are still far off, things are looking up. He expects 34 million people to visit this year. That would be a 100% increase from the previous year.
Officials have high hopes for markets like Russia, Germany, Ukraine, and Poland. They are also looking closely at the UK. The Safe Tourism Certification Program gives Turkey an edge over other Southern European spots. It started last June to keep health risks low for everyone. You can enjoy your stay knowing the government monitors every step of your trip.
In short, the government is working hard to welcome back travelers. By focusing on safety and health, they aim to double the number of foreign visitors in Turkey by the end of 2021.
