The Migration Authority has announced the number of irregular migrants deported within a week
The Turkish Migration Authority reports that over 41,000 irregular migrants have been deported in 2024 as part of ongoing national border security efforts.
Weekly Irregular Migration Statistics Overview
The Ministry of Interior just shared new data on irregular migration control. Between May 26 and June 1, Turkish teams caught 2,910 people across the country. During those same seven days, they sent 1,761 people back to their home countries.
These steps help keep the borders secure. The data shows a constant push to find and return people who don't have a valid residence permit or visa.
Breakdown of Captures by Nationality
The official report lists exactly who was caught in late May. Most of the 2,910 people came from a few specific places:
- Afghanistan: 788 people
- Pakistan: 95 people
- Other countries: 2,027 people
Turkey is a major path for people moving toward Europe. This means the government has to work with many different embassies to handle returns.
Deportation Figures and Irregular Migration Trends
Last week, 1,761 people were sent home. Most fell into the "other" category, but specific groups were also processed. Officials sent back 394 people to Afghanistan and 16 to Pakistan. The rest, 1,351 people, went to various other nations.
The deportation process involves checking IDs carefully. Once someone is caught, the police verify who they are. Then, they talk to the right embassy to get them home safely. This ensures that people without a legal right to stay are returned.
Border Security and Prevention of Illegal Entry
Turkey is working hard to stop illegal entry at the source. Last week, guards stopped 3,988 people at the border.
The numbers for the whole year are even bigger. From January to June, 100,893 people were blocked from entering. This happens because of new walls, sensors, and more patrols on the eastern and southern borders.
Cumulative Deportation Data for the Current Year
Officials keep a fast pace for sending people back. So far this year, 41,337 people have been deported. The numbers for 2023 include:
- Afghanistan: 13,233 deportations
- Pakistan: 1,848 deportations
- Other countries: 26,256 deportations
These figures show that Turkey is serious about its immigration rules.
Current Status of Removal Centers
Removal centers hold people while their paperwork is finished. On June 1, there were 16,589 people in these centers. This group includes:
- 4,102 people from Afghanistan
- 1,709 people from Pakistan
- 10,778 people from other countries
You'll find that these centers provide food and a place to stay while the law takes its course. It's how the government manages irregular migration while following local and global rules.
