Discover the essential steps and documents required for Moroccan citizens to legally marry in Turkey, including consulate procedures and apostille requirements.

Legal Requirements for Moroccan-Turkish Marriages

Marrying a Moroccan citizen involves specific legal steps. These steps change depending on where you hold the ceremony. Both Turkey and Morocco require strict paperwork to make the union legal. If you miss a step, you might face long delays. Or worse, your marriage might not be valid in both countries. A Moroccan-Turkish Marriage needs careful planning to work.

Moroccan Citizens Marrying in Turkey

If a Moroccan citizen wants to marry in Turkey, they usually need a valid residence permit. The most important paper you'll need is the Certificate of Celibacy. This proves you're single and free to marry. You must get this from the Moroccan Consulate in Turkey. After you get it, take it to the local District Governorship (Kaymakamlık) for legalization. Only then can you start your marriage application at the local marriage office (Evlendirme Dairesi).

Turkish Citizens Marrying in Morocco: Required Documents

Are you a Turkish citizen planning to marry in Morocco? You'll need to prepare a full file of documents. Since early 2022, Morocco has strict rules for translations and certifications. They won't accept any Turkish papers without an "Apostille" stamp. So, make sure every document is properly verified before you travel.

Essential Document List for Turkish Citizens

  • Passport and T.R. ID Card: Bring the original documents and copies.
  • Birth Certificate: Get a certified copy from the Population Directorate. You must translate it into Arabic and get an Apostille.
  • Criminal Record: Get this from the courthouse. It also needs an Arabic translation and an Apostille. The Turkish Embassy can help issue this in Arabic too.
  • Income Certificate: This is a signed paper from your boss showing what you earn. Translate it into Arabic and get an Apostille. The Embassy can't give you this one.
  • Residence Certificate: Get this from your local Muhtar or the Population Directorate. It needs an Arabic translation and an Apostille.
  • Divorce Decree: If you were married before, you need the final court decision. Translate it into Arabic and get an Apostille.

Documents Required for the Moroccan Spouse

The Moroccan partner has their own list of papers. If you're using Turkish diplomatic channels in Morocco, provide these:

  • Original Certificate of Celibacy: This must have an Apostille from Moroccan officials and a Turkish translation.
  • Moroccan National ID: Bring the original and a copy.
  • Birth Registration: You need an official sample with an Apostille and a Turkish translation.
  • Divorce Certificate: If they were married before, the court decision must be Apostilled and translated.

The Apostille and Translation Process

Getting your translations right is vital. Since 2022, you must use sworn translators registered with the Turkish Embassy if you're in Morocco. If you bring papers from Turkey, get them Apostilled at the District Governorship (Kaymakamlık) first. Without that stamp, Moroccan officials will reject your papers right away. And that can ruin your timeline.

How to Register a Moroccan Marriage in Turkey

A marriage in Morocco isn't automatically recorded in Turkey. You have to do it yourself. Here is how you register your Moroccan-Turkish Marriage:

  1. Get your original Arabic marriage certificate.
  2. Have the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs certify it.
  3. Get a Turkish translation from a sworn translator at the Turkish Embassy.
  4. Take the certified original and the translation to the Turkish Embassy's Consular Branch.

Both of you should go in person. The Embassy will then update your records. This ensures Turkey recognizes your marriage as legal. It's a simple step, but you can't skip it.
