Turkey and Turkmenistan Strengthen Strategic Partnership in Ashgabat
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently visited Ashgabat. This trip marks a big step for the Turkey and Turkmenistan Strategic Partnership. During the 15th Leaders’ Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, the two countries signed eight major deals. These agreements cover things like media, health, and farming. It shows both nations want regional stability and growth.
Targeting a $5 Billion Trade Volume
Money was a big topic during the talks. President Erdoğan wants to see more trade between the two nations. Right now, the goal is to hit a $5 billion trade volume. This target shows how much they want to work together. Both leaders say current numbers are just the start. They expect the partnership to grow much larger soon.
The Turkey and Turkmenistan Strategic Partnership: 8 New Agreements
The eight new deals signed in Ashgabat cover many areas. They help modernize how both countries work together. And they improve how officials share technical skills. Here's what the eight documents include:
- Media and Broadcasting: A deal between the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) and Turkmenistan's state media committee.

- Journalism Standards: A new agreement between Anadolu Agency and the Turkmenistan State News Agency (TDH).
- Healthcare and Medicine: A plan for medical science and healthcare cooperation between the two governments.
- Agriculture and Equine Science: A deal between Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and the State Union of "Turkmen Horses."
- Education: New rules for the Joint Turkmen-Turkish General Education School.
- Financial Cooperation: A deal between the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey and the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.
- Diplomatic Protocol: An agreement between the Foreign Ministries to make protocol matters easier.
A Shared History and the "Brothers Council"
Erdoğan talked about the deep history that connects these two nations. He calls Turkmenistan the "ancestral homeland." Turkey was the first country to recognize Turkmenistan’s independence 30 years ago. So, this visit just makes that old bond even stronger. You can see the respect they have for each other.
