Learn the implications of Turkey's entry ban codes for international protection applicants and how they affect your ability to re-enter the country legally.

The Legal Framework of Turkey's Entry Ban System

Turkey manages its borders using the Law on Foreigners and International Protection (LFIP) No. 6458. This law sets the rules for an entry ban, especially for asylum seekers. If you withdraw your application or it gets rejected, the Presidency of Migration Management (PMM) adds codes to your file. These codes tell border guards to stop you from entering for several years.

Code 0-100: Voluntary Withdrawal of Application

Code 0-100 applies when you decide to stop your protection process yourself. You might choose to go back home or move to a different country. This often happens before the government makes a final decision on your status.

Duration: 1-year entry ban.

This is the mildest code. It shows you didn't break serious rules but just ended your request. But the one-year ban is still required. It stops people from using the asylum system just for short-term stays.

Code 0-176: Unacceptable or Terminated Applications

Code 0-176 is a bit more serious. It covers several administrative issues. Authorities use it if your application doesn't meet legal rules or if they take away your status.

Duration: 3-year entry ban.

The ministry triggers this code under these conditions:

  • Unacceptable Applications: You came from a "safe third country" where you could have asked for help first.
  • Implicit Withdrawal: You didn't report to the office or left your city without a permit.
  • Termination: You don't need protection anymore because your home country is safe now.

Code 0-177: Rejected, Excluded, or Cancelled Applications

Code 0-177 is the toughest entry ban for those seeking protection. It applies when the PMM officially denies your case or finds you ineligible. This happens after they do a full review of your file.

If you need a closer look here, see Consequences of the Ç-118 Entry Ban.

Duration: 5-year entry ban.

The main reasons for this code include:

  • Final Rejection: The PMM decides you aren't in real danger back home.
  • Exclusion: They believe you committed serious crimes like war crimes outside Turkey.
  • Cancellation: You used fake papers or lied to get protection.

How Entry Bans Impact Future Residency and Investment

An entry ban does more than block you at the airport. It stays on your permanent record in the migration database. If you want to buy property or get a long-term permit, this ban is a huge problem. Even after it ends, officers will look at your file more closely. You'll face more questions during future visa applications.

You must clear your legal status before trying to come back for business. If you ignore these codes, you'll face deportation as soon as you land. It's better to check your status before you travel.

Legal Remedies: Challenging an Entry Ban

These bans are official actions you can fight in court. If a code is wrong or the decision was unfair, you can take legal action. You have the right to defend your case.

For the legal detail behind this point, see 1. Filing an Administrative Lawsuit / 2. Getting a Special Annotated Visa.

  • Administrative Appeal: You can ask the PMM to look at your case again.
  • Judicial Review: You can sue in the Administrative Court to cancel the ban. You usually have 60 days to do this.
  • Constitutional Court: If the ban violates your human rights, you can apply here.

These steps are very technical and all in Turkish. So, you'll need a good lawyer to help you with the lawsuit. Dealing with an entry ban is hard, but the right legal help makes it possible to return to Turkey.
